NEW YORK, June 15 (UPI) -- Montreal native Rufus Wainwright is honoring his muse, performer Judy Garland, with two reproductions of her fabled 1961 comeback performance.
The Vancouver Sun reports that numerous similarities between the lives of Wainwright and Garland make him the ideal candidate to perform the tribute.
Both performers began their professional careers with their sisters, came from celebrity families, and had a troubling history with barbiturates and amphetamines.
Yet according to a report from the Sun, their similar biting wit and flair for melodrama is what will make Wainwright's performance a spot-on imitation of the woman who has inspired him so much.
In addition, Wainwright is reportedly at the height of his musical career right now, after releasing the albums "Want One" and "Want Two" over the last three years.
Some Internet writers have said Wainwright's tribute is destined to be "the gayest event that ever gayed," but the Sun wrote that Wainwright -- who has been very public about his sexual orientation -- is simply creating the most grandiose tribute he can.
