Pete Doherty enters Portugal rehab clinic

LONDON, June 8 (UPI) -- British rocker Pete Doherty is reportedly undergoing drug rehabilitation therapy at a clinic in Portugal, NME.com reported Thursday.

Sources connected to Doherty's band, Babyshambles, told the magazine's Web site Doherty made the decision to enter rehab on his own and checked into an unnamed clinic at the start of this week.

The detox phase is expected to take at least a couple of weeks after which Doherty has agreed to try an "opiate-surpressing implant," the sources said.

Doherty has made frequent headlines in Britain and abroad with his drug arrests and drug-related exploits.

The latest incident involved a syringe found in the restroom of an EasyJet flight transporting the band from London to a concert in Barcelona, Spain.

Although he was not arrested after being questioned by police last week, Doherty was banned by EasyJet.
