Diamond vs. Cassini over air conditioner

NEW YORK, May 19 (UPI) -- Singer Neil Diamond is suing his New York neighbor -- the widow of fashion designer Oleg Cassini -- over her huge air conditioning unit.

New York City officials already have told Cassini's widow, Marianne Nestor, and her sister, Peggy, their massive air conditioning units and the 13-foot tall beams that support them are in violation of the city's zoning laws, The New York Daily News reported Friday.

But nothing was done after the ruling last August, said court papers filed by Diamond's attorney in New York Superior Court.

In asking a judge to make the women comply with city laws, Diamond says the beams and machines destroyed the "serene environment" of his rooftop garden and lowered his property values.

Nestor, president of Oleg Cassini, Inc., did not return phone calls, the newspaper said.
