Florida drops charges against Young Jeezy

MIAMI, May 17 (UPI) -- Florida weapons charges have been dismissed against Atlanta rapper Young Jeezy.

The rapper, born Jay Jenkins, had been charged with two counts of carrying a concealed weapon stemming from a March 10 shootout following a fight in Miami's South Beach. There were no injuries.

Police said they found two guns in Jenkins' car, but the rapper's attorney said his client was "simply at the wrong place at the wrong time," E! Online reported.

During a hearing in Miami-Dade Circuit Court Tuesday, prosecutor Audrey Frank said the state would not pursue charges against Jenkins because of a lack of evidence, E! said.

A charge of strong-armed robbery against the rapper's personal assistant was also dropped.

Jenkins is recording the follow-up to his debut album, "Let's Get It: Thug Motivation 101," which entered the Billboard charts at No. 2 last summer.
