Shakira big winner at Billboard Awards

HOLLYWOOD, Fla., April 28 (UPI) -- Colombian star Shakira led the field at the Latin Billboard Music Awards in Hollywood, Fla., with six prizes.

Her album "Oral Fixation Vol. 1" won best female Latin pop album of the year and the single "The Torture," with Spain's Alejandro Sanz, garnered four more awards, including hot Latin song of the year, Billboard.com reported.

Shakira was also honored with the Spirit of Hope Award for her efforts to improve living conditions for Columbia's poor.

The reggaeton production team Luny Tunes won production team of the year and its song, "Mayor Que Yo," was named reggaeton track of the year.

Puerto Rico's Daddy Yankee won three awards, including top Latin album artist, while Dominican singer Andy Andy and Mexico's pop group RBD also took home three trophies each.

The Hall of Fame Award went to 30-year veteran Joan Sebastian of Mexico.

The Latin Billboard Music Awards are based on sales and radio airplay data used to compile the industry magazine's weekly charts.
