'Sesame Street' takes seven Daytime Emmys

LOS ANGELES, April 24 (UPI) -- "Sesame Street" led the pack with seven trophies and PBS took a total of 12 at the 33rd Annual Creative Craft Daytime Emmy Awards.

Ceremonies were conducted Saturday night with Meredith Vieira handling the New York honors at the Marriott Marquis Hotel and "Watch This" comic John Henson emceeing at the Grand Ballroom in Los Angeles, Daily Variety reported.

"Sesame Street's" honors included writing in a children's series, costume design, music direction and composition, direction/set decoration/ scenic design and performer in a children's show for Kevin "Elmo" Clash. Carroll Spinney, who does the voices of Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch, was given a lifetime achievement award.

PBS' "Jakers! The Adventure of Piggley Winks" won for best children's animated show and "Zoom" was named best children's program and also took the Emmy for the best directing of a children's show.

"The Ellen DeGeneres Show" director Lenn Goodside was named best talk show director while "Jeopardy" took the Emmy for outstanding game show.

The 33rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony takes place Friday night in Los Angeles and will be broadcast live on ABC.
