Sophia Loren exhibit opens in Rome

ROME, April 8 (UPI) -- Visitors to the national monument in Rome will now see more than the Tomb of the Unknown Solider and memorials to Garibaldi.

An exhibition in honor of international film star Sophia Loren opened at the monument on Saturday, making Loren the first Italian woman to have an exhibition at the monument devoted to her life.

Dressed in a white trouser suit, the 71-year-old Loren was overcome with emotion at the unveiling ceremony, the Times of London reported.

"I have never forgotten my roots," said said between sobs.

The Sophia Loren exhibition includes letters, film scripts, prizes, costumes, jewels, photos, portraits and film posters illustrating her rise from a skinny girl in Naples to an international film star.

The display also includes the hats and dresses designed for her by Giorgio Armani.
