Broadway actor accused of teen assault

NEW YORK, April 6 (UPI) -- A Broadway star has been arrested in Los Angeles on a New York warrant for allegedly luring a young starlet to his apartment and assaulting her.

James Barbour, 40, star of Broadway's "Assassins" and the Tony Award-winning "Jane Eyre" was charged Wednesday with sexual abuse and sodomy, the New York Post reported Thursday. A Los Angeles judge ordered him to surrender to New York police on April 17.

The unidentified aspiring actress told New York police she met Barbour in 1991 through her high school drama coach when she was 15.

She met him again later that year when her parents took her to see "Jane Eyre." In her complaint, she said he promised her a personal backstage tour, but instead they had sex in his dressing room.

She said she returned to New York a few weeks later and had sex with the actor again at his apartment.

It was not known why the aspiring actress waited so long to come forward, the Post said.
