David E. Kelley creating new show for ABC

LOS ANGELES, March 28 (UPI) -- Producer David E. Kelley is working on a time travel series for ABC based on the BBC's sci-fi drama, "Life on Mars," it was reported Tuesday.

The BBC show stars John Simon as a 21st century detective who is in a car crash and finds himself transported back to the 1970s, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Kelley is writing the script and will executive produce the U.S. version. His David E. Kelley Productions and Britain's Kudos Film & Television will produce along with 20th Century Fox TV.

Kelley is currently executive producer of the hit show he also created for ABC, "Boston Legal."

"Life on Mars" took its name from a song by David Bowie and debuted Jan. 9 on BBC 1.
