Pretenders release box set retrospective

NEW YORK, March 14 (UPI) -- Chrissie Hynde decided to get involved with the new Pretenders box set, "Pirate Radio," to make sure it was done right.

"I'm never trying to sell my fish, as it were. I'm not particularly ambitious or trying to be remembered in particular or anything like that," Hynde says. "But they were going to do it, so I thought I better get in on it because it does represent me and my various incarnations of the Pretenders."

Hynde, a native of Akron, Ohio, moved to London in 1974 and founded the band four years later. She has one child with Kinks leader Ray Davies, and another with Simple Minds frontman Jim Kerr.

"Pirate Radio" features 81 songs on four CDs and a DVD with 19 television and concert performances. The Pretenders kick off a short tour to promote it on Saturday at the South By Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas.
