AYLESBURY, England, March 7 (UPI) -- British comic John Junkin who was in the Beatles' film "A Hard Day's Night" and TV's "EastEnders" died in Aylesbury, England, Tuesday. He was 76.
Junkin died at the Florence Nightingale House in Stoke Mandeville Hospital of lung cancer, emphysema and asthma, the Telegraph reported.
Junkin shared the stage with some of Britain's top comics including Morecambe and Wise, Ronnie Barker and Spike Milligan, the newspaper said.
He appeared in British TV's "The Goodies," "Terry And June," and "Till Death Us Do Part" in the 1970s and made a comeback five years ago as Ernie in "EastEnders."
Former Radio 1 personality Dave Lee Travis said Junkin never failed to make him laugh, even in regular conversation.
"He was one of those characters that if you were in conversation with him, you were always in a state of hilarity," he said. "He had no airs and graces at all. He was just as at home talking to his friends in the local pub as he was with people in show business."
