Jason Patric loses case against Austin cop

AUSTIN, Texas, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- A federal court jury has rejected actor Jason Patric's excessive force and false imprisonment suit against an Austin, Texas, police officer.

The jury deliberated Patric's civil suit for about nine hours before returning with a verdict in favor of Officer Joshua Visi late Thursday, the Austin American-Statesman reported Friday.

Patric, 39, was in Austin for a March 2004 screening of his film "The Alamo" when he had a run-in with the officer. Patric claimed the officer threw him to the ground, but Visi testified during the trial he tripped or stumbled, causing Patric to briefly land on top of him.

Patric was initially charged with public intoxication and resisting arrest but the charges were dropped because of a lack of evidence, the newspaper said.

Patric told reporters after the verdict was read, he was disappointed but fulfilled his goal of holding the officer accountable.

"I want to make sure that it never happens again," he said.
