J-Lo makes Hispanic blood drive appeal

NEW YORK, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Singer/actress Jennifer Lopez has thrown her support behind a Hispanic blood drive aimed at helping a New York woman with cancer.

Doctors say Janet Ovalles, 29, will not live unless she gets a bone marrow transplant, MTV.com reported Monday.

Bone marrow donor center, DKMS, scheduled a blood drive Feb. 25 and enlisted Lopez to get the word out to Hispanics, since most matches come from people with the same ethnic backgrounds.

"I am a young Hispanic woman, so is Janet," Lopez said in a statement. "I could empathize with her situation so much."
