Former rock star running for Congress

DOVER PLAINS, N.Y., Feb. 1 (UPI) -- The 1979s rocker who flipped when President Bush used his hit "Still the One" without permission wants New York voters to choose him as "The One."

Orleans guitarist John Hall says he will seek the Democratic nomination to oppose Rep. Susan Kelly, R-N.Y., in the state's 19th District, the New York Post reported Wednesday.

"I'm putting my musical career aside to run for Congress," said Hall, 57, a resident of Dover Plains, N.Y. "The situation in our nation and the world is at such a crucial juncture and the stakes are so high. I want to be a voice for creativity and honesty in solving our problems."

Hall, an environmentalist and lifelong Democrat, was incensed when the Bush campaign latched onto "Still the One" for the last campaign without seeking the band's permission.

The song was dropped.
