Teacher shows R-rated movie to students

LEXINGTON, Ky., Jan. 27 (UPI) -- A Kentucky high school teacher has resigned after being suspended for showing the R-rated sex comedy, "The 40 Year-Old Virgin," in class.

Fernando Del Pino, a Tates Creek High School Spanish teacher, resigned Thursday and school officials said they would draft a district policy spelling out what can and cannot be shown in classrooms, the Lexington (Ky.) Herald-Leader reported Friday.

"A lot of this is plain old common sense, but sometimes you've got to put it out there in terms of policy," Superintendent Stu Silberman told the newspaper.

Del Pino told officials he did not preview the movie before showing it to the class.

A letter sent to parents Thursday said: "Not only was the movie inappropriate and offensive, it was not in line with the educational goals and policies of Tates Creek High School or the Fayette County Public Schools."
