Ralph Fiennes returns to Broadway

NEW YORK, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- Tony Award-winner Ralph Fiennes is heading back to Broadway to star in a revival of Brian Friel's "Faith Healer," it was reported Monday.

Fiennes, whose film credits include "The Constant Gardener" and "The English Patient," has not graced a Broadway stage since his 1995 award winning portrayal of "Hamlet," New York's Newsday noted.

Another Tony winner, Cherry Jones, will play opposite Fiennes in the story of an Irish faith healer who returns home after a lifetime of travel. Ian McDiarmid will play the third character, the healer's manager, in the play scheduled to open May 4 at Broadway's Booth Theatre.

The show opens Feb. 2 in Ireland at the Dublin Gate Theatre with Ingrid Craigie playing the role of Fiennes wife.

"Faith Healer" had a short run on Broadway in 1979 starring James Mason, Clarissa Kaye and Donal Donnelly.
