PASADENA, Calif., Jan. 22 (UPI) -- Veteran film producer Robert Halmi is remaking "The Ten Commandments" for ABC TV with Scottish actor Dougray Scott as Moses.

The two-part movie will air the weekend of Easter Sunday, the New York Post reported Sunday.

ABC also plans uphold its 25-year tradition of airing the original 1956 screen version starring Charlton Heston, ABC President Stephen McPherson said Saturday.

However, he said the air date for the Heston vehicle has not been set. One idea being mulled was to show the original version one or two weeks earlier to promote Halmi's new production.

"Do viewers come in to watch the old one and then get enticed to watch a new one?" he said. "Or is that too much of one thing and viewers say, 'Eh, why do I want to watch a new one?' We'll see ... what works in better with our schedule."

Omar Sharif takes on the role of Jethro in the new version and the Rameses role made famous by Yul Brynner will be played by Paul Rhys.
