LONDON, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Kinks frontman Ray Davies says he was shocked when Britain's Queen Elizabeth told him, "I hope they catch the (expletive) who shot you."
"I could hardly believe what I'd heard. I had to wash my ears out afterwards," Davies, 61, told the Mirror.
Davies told GQ magazine the monarch made the comment after making him a Commander of the British Empire last year.
Davies, 61, spent three weeks in a New Orleans hospital after he was shot in the leg by a mugger. He said he underwent two major operations and was still using a cane when he went to the palace for his CBE.
A Buckingham Palace source told the Mirror it was doubtful "she would speak in this manner."
However, the official royal word was no word.
"We cannot discuss private conversations," a spokeswoman for the queen said.
