50 Cent sued for copyright violation

MIAMI, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- The owner of 2 Live Crew frontman Luther Campbell's music has filed suit in Miami charging rap superstar 50 Cent with copyright infringement.

The federal suit claims 50 Cent's hit single, "In Da Club," rips off lyrics from Campbell's song "It's Your Birthday," AllHipHop.com reported Friday.

Lil' Joe Records owner and attorney Joseph Weinberger claims in the suit that 50 Cent's chant of "Go shorty, it's your birthday" actually belongs to Campbell.

Weinberger obtained the copyrights to 2 Live Crew albums and Campbell's solo recordings after the frontman was forced into bankruptcy, AllHipHop.com said.

"In Da Club" was a smash hit from 50 Cent's album "Get Rich or Die Tryin'."
