Compleat Angler destroyed by fire

ALICE TOWN, Bahamas, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- A Bahamas hotel frequented by author Ernest Hemingway has been destroyed by fire and its owner is presumed dead.

The Compleat Angler was consumed by flames Friday also destroying a museum dedicated to Hemingway, who penned "To Have and Have Not" at the Bimini landmark in the 1930s, the BBC reported Saturday.

Owner Julian Brown remained missing Saturday and was believed to have perished in the fire.

The hotel and museum were a key tourist attraction on the island of Bimini, about 50 miles from the Florida shore.

One Bimini official called the fire "a tremendous pain to bear."

The cause of the blaze was not yet known.
