NEW YORK, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- Josh Strickland has won the title role in Disney's Broadway musical "Tarzan" and Jenn Gambatese will be Jane, it was announced Thursday.
The show begins previews March 24, 2006, at New York's Richard Rodgers Theatre with an opening of May 10 scheduled.
The cast will also feature Merle Dandridge as Kala, Shuler Hensley as Kerchak, Chester Gregory II as Terk, Timothy Jerome as Professor Porter and Donnie Keshawarz as Clayton, Playbill reported Thursday. Daniel Manche and Alex Rutherford will alternate in the role of Young Tarzan.
Two-time Tony Award winner Bob Crowley will direct and design scenery and costumes for the new musical.
Oscar- and six-time Grammy Award-winner Phil Collins, who wrote the songs for the 1999 Disney animated film "Tarzan," is writing the theater score as well.
