Rapper DMC says Adidas no longer his

NEW YORK, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Run-DMC's Darryl McDaniels has kicked his Adidas aside after 20 years and jumped into the Upscale French brand, Le Coq Sportif.

Run-DMC revolutionized hip-hop fashion back in 1986 with their hit song, "My Adidas."

McDaniels, aka DMC, told AllHipHop.com he wore Adidas for some 20 odd years because "literally, no other sneaker looked right on me."

"For some reason, those shell-toes were mine. Not for Run, not (Jam Master) Jay's. For me. I couldn't wear nothing else."

Le Coq Sportif was popular in hip-hop circles in the mid-1980's, AllHipHop.com noted, but DMC said he did not discover the brand until recently.

"I put those shoes on and it was a wrap," DMC said. "I finally found the sneaker I was looking for. Finally I could get out of my shell-toes."

In addition to his new endorsement deal, DMC is helping Le Coq Sportif choose color schemes for its U.S. line.

DMC is preparing to release his debut solo album "Checks Thugs and Rock 'n Roll" on his own label Rags 2 Riches Records.
