Coppola ends 8-year rest

BUCHAREST, Hungary, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Director Francis Ford Coppola is ending his 8-year hiatus with a self-financed, low-budget picture being shot in Bucharest, Hungary.

Coppola wrote the screenplay adaptation of Romanian author Mircea Eliade's novella, "Youth Without Youth," Daily Variety reports. He is not only writer and director, but is also producing the film under his Zoetrope banner.

Stars Tim Roth, Alexandra Maria Lara, Bruno Ganz and Marcel Iures are scheduled to start filming in about two weeks, Variety said.

The story is about a fugitive professor in the years before World War II.

Coppola last directed "The Rainmaker" in 1997.
