News Emmys handed out in New York

NEW YORK, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- ABC, NBC and CBS each won four awards at the 26th Annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards in New York.

ABC's "World News Tonight" anchored by the late Peter Jennings, took three awards Monday night for its special reports, "Battle of Fallujah," "Hidden War: Genocide in Darfur" and "Iraq: Where Things Stand."

Three of NBC's awards went to "Dateline NBC" and two of the CBS Emmys were awarded to its canceled "60 Minutes II," TV Week reported on its Web site.

PBS stations won six of the awards, HBO took three documentary awards and its sister station, Cinemax, won two. The Discovery Times Channel and the Discovery Channel received two Emmys each while The History Channel, MSNBC and the Sundance Channel each took home a trophy.

A special career tribute was made to retired CBS "Evening News" anchor Dan Rather and HBO Documentary and Family President Sheila Nevins received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
