U2 announces support for N.American tour

TORONTO, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Irish rockers U2 have drafted an impressive list of veteran and new artists to support its North American tour, which kicked off in Canada during the weekend.

Kanye West, the Arcade Fire, Patti Smith and Damian Marley will join Dashboard Confessional and Keane for various dates along the route, Billboard.com reported Monday.

Rapper West will actually break from his own tour to help U2 wrap up its outing from Dec. 14-19, in St. Louis, Mo.; Omaha, Salt Lake City and Portland, Ore., Billboard said.

Longtime producer/collaborator Daniel Lanois and Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder joined U2 on stage Saturday at Toronto's Air Canada Centre.

Lanois played guitar on a long version of "One," while Vedder chipped in a few lyrics on "Ol' Man River."

The Vedder appearance left Pearl Jam fans abuzz with speculation U2 would pop up at the Seattle group's show Monday night at the same venue.
