VH1 plans second Hip Hop honors

NEW YORK CITY, N.Y., Aug. 10 (UPI) -- Def Jam founder Russell Simmons and his brother, Joseph Simmons, aka Reverend Run of Run DMC, will host the second annual "VH1 Hip Hop Honors."

The tribute to pioneers of the genre will be taped at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom and aired Sept. 26 on the cable music channel, VH1 said in a news release.

Among the honorees announced Tuesday are LL Cool J, Big Daddy Kane, Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five, Notorious B.I.G., Ice T, Salt -N- Pepa, and the film "Boyz N The Hood."

Kanye West, Eve, Nelly, Common, Jazzy Jeff, Snoop Dogg and Missy Elliott will perform. VH1 said it would announce performers, presenters and special guests as they are confirmed.
