Richards dishes on Rolling Stones

TORONTO, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Guitarist Keith Richards says if the Rolling Stones were a "mum-and-pop operation" vocalist Mick Jagger would be "mum."

Richards described the inner workings of the legendary British band in the new edition of Newsweek, out Monday, saying Jagger gets "up in the morning with a plan."

He knows "who he is going to call, what he's going to eat, where he's going to go," Richards said. "Me, I wake up, praise the Lord, then make sure all the phones are turned off. If we were a mum-and-pop operation, then he'd be Mum."

The Stones have been in Toronto rehearsing for their "Bigger Bang" world tour that kicks off Aug. 21 at Boston's Fenway Park.

Richards also told Newsweek the Stones still get excited about touring or they wouldn't be going on the road. After all these years, each concert is exciting, new and fun, he said.

"I mean, we don't need to do it to feed our families," he said. "We don't need to do it to prove anything."
