LOS ANGELES, July 21 (UPI) -- Christian Bale and Steve Zahn will star in "Rescue Dawn," a drama based on director Werner Herzog's 1997 documentary, "Little Dieter Needs to Fly."
The film will tell the true story of German-born Dieter Dengler, who dreamed of being a pilot and eventually joined the U.S. military during the Vietnam War, the Hollywood Reporter said Thursday.

After being shot down over Vietnam and captured by the enemy, he organized an escape with a small band of captives. Bale will play Dengler and Zahn will play a fellow prisoner of war.
The movie is scheduled to begin shooting in Thailand next month.
