New DVD hopes to get kids off couch

LOS ANGELES, June 17 (UPI) -- A new series of live-action programs is headed for the direct-to-DVD market with the intent of getting kids to exercise.

Lightforce Entertainment, launched last year by Lorimar co-founder Merv Adelson and his son, has reached a deal with Warner Bros. Home Distribution to release a series of programs aimed at kids, Daily Variety reports.

The first program is "JammX Kids," described by Adelson as a mix of "The Mickey Mouse Club and "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers." Adelson told Variety he hopes the show will motivate kids "to get off the couch and move." One episode has the nine-member team helping a teenager work on his hip-hop moves so he can attend the school dance.

The JammX Kids range in age from 9 to 16 and include Alyson Stoner, who appeared in the movie, "Cheaper by the Dozen."
