Michael Moore planning Michigan film fest

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich., June 8 (UPI) -- Filmmaker Michael Moore is planning a unique film festival in Traverse City, Mich., a hot tourist spot on Lake Michigan in the northern Lower Peninsula.

Moore, an area resident and chairman of the Traverse City Film Festival committee, told the Traverse City Record Eagle he plans to project classic and independent films onto an inflatable, floating screen in West Grand Traverse Bay during the festival July 28-31.

"We want to show some classic films that represent the best of cinema," Moore said.

Moore said he has been in talks with the film industry about his new project. As to whether it will remain a community event or turn into something like Robert Redford's Sundance Festival in Utah -- only time will tell.

"The first year of Sundance was just a showing of old movies, if I remember correctly," he said.
