Study: G-movies make more than R-movies

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., June 7 (UPI) -- A study released Tuesday by a Michigan group that promotes "family friendly" flicks says G-rated movies make more money than R-rated films.

The Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Dove Foundation commissioned the study that says even though Hollywood produced 12 times more R-rated movies than G-rated movies from 1989 to 2003 -- G-rated movies were an average 11 times more profitable than the adult-only films.

G-rated movies pulled in an average $79 million profit each while the R-rated counterparts made an average $6.9 million, Dove said.

Even PG movies pulled in more profits than PG-13 or R-rated movies, the study said.

The study reached its conclusions by looking at and comparing the costs and revenues of 200 films released by major Hollywood studios during each year from 1989 to 2003.
