'American Idol' to b'cast extra episode

NEW YORK, March 23 (UPI) -- Fox TV says it displayed faulty voting numbers during its latest "American Idol" episode and will broadcast an unusual extra edition so viewers can re-vote.

The show issued the statement early Wednesday saying, "due to an error with the graphics shown on-screen, incorrect voting numbers were displayed during the performance recap at the end of (Tuesday's) show," Newsday reported.

Because of the confusion, Fox will air an unprecedented live, one-hour version of "American Idol" Wednesday (9 p.m. EST) so viewers can vote again.

"This new show will combine new live elements with encores of Tuesday's performances from the remaining 11 contestants," Fox said.

"American Idol," now in its fourth season, is wildly popular and pulls about 30 million viewers per show.
