Morgan Freeman wins Oscar for 'Baby'

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- Morgan Freeman won the Oscar Sunday for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his role as old-time boxer Eddie "Scrap-Iron" Dupris in "Million Dollar Baby."

Freeman won his first statuette after three previous nominations. He was nominated for a supporting actor Oscar for "Street Smart" in 1987, for best actor for "Driving Miss Daisy" in 1989 and "The Shawshank Redepemption" in 1994.

His nomination this year was one of seven for director Clint Eastwood's boxing-themed drama, which was also up for Best Motion Picture at the 77th Academy Awards, being presented Sunday at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.
