Peter Sellers' estate sues the BBC

LONDON, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- The estate of actor Peter Sellers has filed suit against the BBC in Britain, alleging it illegally used footage from his home videos on a DVD documentary.

Estate lawyers claim the footage was used without permission, the Daily Mirror reported Monday.

Lynne Frederick, Sellers' deceased third wife, loaned the BBC hours of private film for a three-part Arena series screened in 1995. Beneficiaries of her estate say the BBC breached copyright when it used some of the footage on the DVD, titled "Sellers on Sellers."

"The BBC is trying to profit from the unauthorized use of Peter Sellers' copyrighted material," said lawyer Scott Whiteleather, who represents the estate.

The BBC has claimed ownership of the copyright. However, it has been ordered to remove the DVD from the market pending a court decision, the Mirror reported.
