'Get Carter' remake voted worst

LONDON, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- A British survey voted a 2000 version of Michael Caine's 1971 "Get Carter" as the worst remake film of all times.

DVD rental firm Screenselect.co.uk released its findings Sunday, rating "Get Carter" starring Sylvester Stallone as the worst movie remake, with critics calling the film "pointless," "useless" and "an incoherent mess," Britain's Guardian reported Monday.

Gus Van Sant's version of the Alfred Hitchcock horror classic "Psycho" flopped at second place.

"Time after time, remakes fail to sparkle like the originals. This poll is an indication that remakes can't compare with films which were classics of their time," said Alex Chesterman, ScreenSelect's founder.

Other top level failures were "Thunderbirds," "Charlie's Angels, "Planet of the Apes," "Starsky and Hutch," and "Alfie," the new Jude Law film based on the 1966 classic starring Caine.
