J.R. Ewing and gang headed to big screen

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Conniving Texas oil tycoon J.R. Ewing and cohorts are headed to the big screen in a film version of the popular 1980s U.S. TV drama "Dallas."

The production follows a Hollywood trend of reviving popular 1980s TV series, such as "The Dukes of Hazzard," "Miami Vice" and "The A-Team," with 21st century film versions, Zap2it.com reported Friday.

Legally Blonde" director Robert Luketic reportedly is on board to head up the screen version with "Steel Magnolias" screenwriter Robert Harling set to pen the "Dallas" script.

"Dallas," starring Larry Hagman, ran from 1978 to 1991. The "Who Shot J.R.?" episode was one of the most popular in TV history.
