LOS ANGELES, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- The attorney for "Baretta" star Robert Blake says his client is innocent and Christian Brando orchestrated the 2001 slaying of Bonnie Lee Bakley.
Attorney Gerald Schwartzbach made the charge in court papers filed in Los Angeles Wednesday, seeking to present evidence he says will prove the son of the late Marlon Brando had Bakley killed because she told him the child she was carrying was his, then turned around and married Blake -- the real father, E! Online reports.
Schwartzbach said one of the key witnesses against Blake, who has been charged with murdering his wife, was in fact part of the plot to kill her.
Ronald Hambleton, the witness in question, told a preliminary hearing that Blake hired him to kill Bakley. But Schwartzbach claims it was Brando, not Blake, who hired the Hambleton to do the deed.
Blake's trial is scheduled to begin Nov. 1.
