NBC sets 'Seinfeld' Thanksgiving special

BURBANK, Calif., Sept. 23 (UPI) -- NBC will air "The Seinfeld Story," a one-hour look back at the long-running hit comedy series, on Thanksgiving night, the network announced Thursday.

The telecast comes just two days after the release of the complete "Seinfeld" series on DVD. The special will feature highlight clips from the show, as well as new interview footage with series co-stars Jason Alexander, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Michael Richards.

NBC Entertainment President Kevin Reilly said the special would examine the show's rise from a low-rated comedy series to one of the biggest hits in TV history.

"This special will focus on the early days of 'Seinfeld,'" said Reilly, "and how it all began when it was the darkest of dark horses and had to overcome many obstacles, including poor media reviews."

The special will be telecast in high definition -- marking the first time "Seinfeld" has ever been broadcast in HDTV.

"Seinfeld," which ran on NBC from 1989 to 1998, was recently named the No. 1 TV series of all time by TV Guide. During its run, the show earned 10 Emmy Awards -- including Outstanding Comedy Series -- and 70 nominations.
