CBS cancels planned Madonna concert

BURBANK, Calif., Sept. 10 (UPI) -- CBS has canceled plans to televise a Madonna concert, according to a report on the TV tabloid "Access Hollywood."

Plans had called for taping of a concert from the singer's current "Reinvention" tour in Lisbon, Portugal, next week, with the tape to be played back at an unspecified date. "Access Hollywood" said the telecast was canceled when the network and the singer were unable to reach agreement on terms of the deal.

"The special is not happening," said a CBS publicist. "CBS wanted the concert to fit into a two-hour format. Madonna said it could not be done, so the special has been canceled."

The publicist confirmed Madonna had wanted to concert to air without commercial interruption, and the network was not willing to do that.

A representative for the singer confirmed the deal fell through, but said there were "many reasons why."

Madonna has appeared in three televised concert specials for HBO -- "Madonna Live: The Drowned World Tour" (2001), "Madonna -- Live Down Under: The Girlie Show" (1993) and "Madonna -- Live! Blonde Ambition World Tour '90" (1990).
