Katherine Jenkins sings at Welsh ball

CARDIFF, Wales, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- Welsh opera star Katherine Jenkins is set to sing at a Cardiff, Wales, promises to sing something from her new album at a fundraiser honoring Shirley Bassey.

Jenkins will perform at the Diamonds Are Forever Ball scheduled for later this month to raise money for the Noah's Ark Appeal and for Wales' first children's hospital under construction in Cardiff, Western Mail said.

"I am going to sing something from my new album ... I don't think I will attempt any of Shirley's songs. I will be sticking to what I can do. I don't think I could ever sing one of her songs better, so I won't try. She is too amazing to even attempt that," said Jenkins, one of several performers scheduled at the event.

The 24-year-old mezzo-soprano, the fastest selling female opera singer since Maria Callas, signed the largest record deal in British classical recording history earlier this year. She is set to record six albums with Universal Classics.
