Ex-'Baywatch' actor ran over skater

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif., July 20 (UPI) -- An ex-"Baywatch" actor was arrested for allegedly running over a skater while driving drunk in West Hollywood, it was reported Tuesday.

Michael Bergin, 35, is free on $50,000 bail after his arrest Friday for allegedly mowing down an inline skater with his 2001 GMC Yukon while under the influence of alcohol and possibly drugs, E! Online said.

Bergin, a one-time Calvin Klein underwear model who also wrote a tell-all book about his romance with Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, was attempting a left turn when he struck the lead skater in a line of 15 skaters, said Sgt. Bob Minutello of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The skater, a 39-year-old woman, was still hospitalized Monday with a possible broken hip and head trauma.

Authorities said Bergin was "extremely uncooperative," refusing to submit to a field sobriety test. Police at the scene suspected he was under the influence of alcohol and "possible drugs," Minutello said.

Bergin was released from custody Saturday.
