M. Night not upset with Sci Fi over 'hoax'

NEW YORK, July 18 (UPI) -- Filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan says he bares no ill will towards the Sci Fi Channel for the controversial way it marketed a special about his latest film.

The filmmakers behind the documentary have said they started out making a behind-the-scenes look at the making of "The Village," but insisted Shyamalan ceased cooperating when they got too personal, forcing them to make instead the unauthorized biography, "The Buried Secret of M. Night Shyamalan," which some critics have suggested is actually a "Blair Witch Project"-style mockumentary.

The Sci Fi Channel admitted last week it only said it had a falling-out with Shyamalan to drum up publicity for the TV special.

Best-known for making suspenseful films with unexpected endings like "The Sixth Sense," Shyamalan told UPI he wasn't upset with the Sci Fi Channel and even hinted he might have been in on the hoax.

"They're really cool people over there at Sci Fi. (Network president) Bonnie (Hammer) is a super-smart lady. I think they're really creative, ballsy people over there at Sci Fi," he said, then, referring to the special, added, "They had a really cool project."

Asked about his participation in or knowledge of the hoax, he replied: "You have to see. I can't tell you."
