Brian Wilson to perform 'Smile' in Europe

LOS ANGELES, June 1 (UPI) -- Brian Wilson has announced a new round of dates in Europe for his live performances of the Beach Boys' formerly scrapped "Smile" album.

Pollstar magazine reported Tuesday that Wilson will appear July 13-14 at The Hague in the Netherlands, followed by two weeks of shows in the United Kingdom followed by August dates in Belgium, Germany, Norway, Sweden and Spain. There may be North American dates in the fall.

Wilson will play the entire album with a 10-musician ensemble led by Darian Sahanaja's Wondermints.

Originally conceived by Wilson in 1966, the "The Smile" album was considered an epic follow-up to the Beach Boys' legendary "Pet Sounds" album, but it was scrapped prior to completion.

Earlier this year, Wilson resumed work on the project with original lyricist Van Dyke Parks, and the all-new version is scheduled for release Sept. 28 by Nonesuch Records.
