Gwyneth Paltrow to star as Dietrich

LOS ANGELES, May 27 (UPI) -- DreamWorks is developing a movie based on the life of screen legend Marlene Dietrich, starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Daily Variety reported.

Paltrow, currently taking some time off following the recent birth of her first child with Coldplay singer Chris Martin, will also be a producer on the movie. Variety said DreamWorks has optioned "Marlene Dietrich," the memoir by Dietrich's only daughter, Maria Riva.

Dietrich starred in such screen classics as "Judgment at Nuremberg," "Touch of Evil," "Witness for the Prosecution," "A Foreign Affair" and "The Blue Angel." Her saloon singer in "Destry Rides Again" became a prototype, and was parodied by the late Madeline Kahn in "Blazing Saddles."

Dietrich spent the last 11 years of her life in bed, before she died in 1992 at 90.
