'Wicked' wins big at Drama Desk Awards

NEW YORK, May 17 (UPI) -- "Wicked," the Broadway show about the witches of Oz, won top honors, including best musical, in the New York media's Drama Desk Awards.

"Wicked," a top Tony Award nominee, captured six awards, which were voted on by New York theater reporters, editors and critics, the New York Post reported Monday.

"I Am My Own Wife," about a transvestite living in Berlin during World War II, won for best play.

Other Drama Desk Award winners included "Henry IV" for revival of a play; Kevin Kline in "Henry IV" for actor in a play; "Assassins" for best revival of a musical; Hugh Jackman, of "The Boy From Oz," actor in a musical; Donna Murphy of "Wonderful Town" was voted best actress in a musical.

Phylicia Rashad of "A Raisin in the Sun," and Viola Davis from "Intimate Apparel" tied for the award for actress in a play.

The awards were handed out Sunday.
