BOSTON, April 11 (UPI) -- Entertainer, educator and best-selling author Bill Cosby is also a composer and has written the scores of several of his U.S. television programs.
Now the Berklee College of Music, in Boston, will award Cosby an honorary Doctorate of Music degree on May 8. Each year, Berklee presents honorary degrees at its Commencement ceremony to individuals who have made an enduring contribution to the world of music. Past recipients include Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington, Steven Tyler, Nancy Wilson, David Bowie, and Quincy Jones.
Cosby penned music for "The Cosby Show," "A Different World" and "Little Bill" Cosby and he credits jazz with influencing his free-flowing comedy performance style. He has toured as a singer and led his own jazz groups.
Bill Cosby earned a bachelor's degree and master's degree from Temple University in Philadelphia and a doctorate in education from the University of Massachusetts.
