Aretha Franklin released from hospital

DETROIT, March 25 (UPI) -- Soul singer Aretha Franklin has been discharged from a Detroit hospital where she had been treated for an allergic reaction to antibiotics.

Franklin yelled, "I love you back," and gave her fans a thumbs-up as she left Sinai-Grace Hospital Wednesday in her limousine, WXYZ-TV, Detroit, reported.

Franklin had been hospitalized since Saturday after complaining she did not feel well following a concert that night.

"It was an allergic reaction to some antibiotics she took just shortly before that," Dr. Claude Young said, "and it gave her a rather severe reaction."

Franklin was admitted to the hospital because her blood platelet count had dropped significantly, Young said.

Young said he and a hematologist will monitor Franklin for several days following her hospital release.

The singer turns 62 Thursday.
