'Dukes of Hazzard' film on hold

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 10 (UPI) -- The big screen revival of "Dukes of Hazzard" is on hold awaiting results from the March 5 release of another oldies remake, "Starsky & Hutch."

"(Warner Bros. is) waiting to see how 'Starsky & Hutch' does," said John O'Brien, who wrote the project's first draft, Zap2it.com reported Tuesday.

O'Brien also helped write the screenplay for the "Starsky & Hutch" film. Based on the popular 1970s series, the movie stars Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson as the duo, with Snoop Dogg as their informant Huggy Bear.

While details of the "Dukes" project are few, one can guess the film will, as did the 1980s series, chronicle the adventures of Bo and Luke Duke who speed through Hazzard County in their car, the General Lee, evading the likes of lawman Boss Hog.

Warner Brothers plans to begin production later this year.

O'Brien said he had talked with "Dukes" fan Ashton Kutcher, but could not confirm any casting. The 25-year-old actor-producer had once dressed as Luke Duke for Halloween.
