PBS signs home video deal with Paramount

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- PBS has signed with Paramount Home Video to distribute its popular series, including "The Civil War" and "Teletubbies," Video Business reported Thursday.

Beginning April 5, Paramount will be PBS's distributor for all of its future and previous home video releases, including popular Ken Burns documentaries, The American Experience releases and children's programming, such as "Caillou" and "Teletubbies."

PBS chose Paramount because of its success in distributing Nickelodeon products and other children's lines, according to Tracey Beeker, vice president of consumer products marketing at PBS.

"Children's product is a fairly large part of our business," Beeker said. "It's something we're continuing to want to grow out and expand further."

PBS's children's product will be integrated into Paramount's overall children's push, she said.

Pricing on current PBS releases will remain the same.

The new five-year agreement replaces a 10-year deal PBS had with Warner Home Video.
