Actor pleased with 'Station Agent' success

NEW YORK, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- Actor Bobby Cannavale says he is thrilled with the attention the 2003 indie film "The Station Agent" is getting.

The story of three lonely people bonding in New Jersey has done well at the box office since it was released last summer, earning three Screen Actors Guild Award nominations Thursday.

Talking to reporters in New York recently, Cannavale admitted that he, independent filmmaker Tom McCarthy and co-star Peter Dinklage were a bit apprehensive about how people would receive the quirky film when they attended a premiere in Europe last year.

"We walked in," Cannavale told UPI's Karen Butler, "Peter, me and Tom, the motley crew, down the longest red carpet I have ever seen in my life and there was nobody on the red carpet. Zero. Not a photographer or reporter, just people waiting on line for their tickets."

Cannavale said as the cast was leaving the theater after the screening, however, they were greeted by hundreds of excited new fans.

"They were following us -- 1,000 people screaming: 'Bobby! Fin! Bobby!' I was like, 'This is crazy,'" he recalled. "Still, I can't believe this. We were at the Howard Johnson's last year in Jersey."
